London Infrastructure Framework

31st March 2026|Categories: Updates|Tags: , , |

With the next London Plan in development, London needs strategic priority infrastructure projects to deliver its economic, housing and resilience ambitions. The Mayor has published a London Infrastructure Framework (LIF) to translate the vision into delivery.

It includes a London Infrastructure Framework Explorer to provide a visual and interactive way to explore the projects featured in the LIF Portfolio. The tool enables users to identify where infrastructure schemes with the highest impact on London’s key outcomes are located, and the different economic sectors they relate [more…]

Mayor’s ‘Vision Zero’ road safety plan

20th March 2026|Categories: Updates|Tags: , , , |

On 13th March 2026 the Mayor and Transport for London (TfL) launched an updated ‘Vision Zero’ plan to significantly reduce road danger and prevent deaths and serious injuries on London’s roads over the next five years.

TfL is considering how to tackle the safety issues posed by oversized cars such as SUVs, which are increasingly common on London’s roads and more likely to cause deaths or serious injuries in collisions and are too wide for existing parking infrastructure. New car tax fees for them are possible.

Densifying the Suburbs – A presenter’s Insight

10th March 2026|Categories: Insights|Tags: , , , , |

Our President, Ben Derbyshire, provides his Insights into our recent Densifying the Suburbs event.

Ben Derbyshire

I welcomed the invitation to speak at an open meeting of the Forum, ‘Densifying the Suburbs’ alongside Professor Tony Travers of UCL and local planners, Paul Lewin and Justin Carr from Waltham Forest and Brent councils respectively.  My challenge – most people who have time to participate in their local civic societies will already be well housed, so what, I asked, should be our [more…]

West London Orbital

6th March 2026|Categories: Updates|Tags: , , , |

A post on the IanVisits website explains how the West London Orbital could run up to six trains an hour and provide ten new interchanges with rail and Underground services, alongside four new stations at Old Oak Common Lane, Neasden, Harlesden and Lionel Road, while some existing stations along the route would be upgraded to accommodate the new service. Funds have been allocated for the next stage of planning.

The project’s backers say the new rail link could support the construction of more than 25,000 homes and 11,500 jobs.

The rise and fall of bus passenger numbers in London

18th February 2026|Categories: Insights|Tags: , |

Bus passenger numbers in London reached a peak of 2.4 billion in 2014, but since then have fallen to 1.8 billion in 2025. This decline is now exercising the Mayor and GLA Transport Committee, but it is not a new phenomenon. From 1958 to the early 1980s there was steady decline in bus usage. In the ten years to December 1969 the scheduled fleet fell from 7756 to 6900, if Country buses and Green Line services are included. Scheduled red buses fell from 6451 to 5785.

This decline reflected [more…]

Bus network is in decline

10th February 2026|Categories: Updates|Tags: , , |

There was an article in TheLondoner on how London’s once world-beating bus network has been in decline for a decade and TfL has lost a quarter of its passengers and their payments.

A report by London Forum’s transport expert, Andrew Bosi, on the background to those trends will be published shortly.

Car Sharing

7th February 2026|Categories: Updates|Tags: , |

The Zipcar vehicle hire company ceased operating in the UK at the end of last year leaving their customers with few alternative choices.

It pointed its members to the CoMoUK website for more information on other car sharing options in their area.

One that might be of interest for Londoners is the Enterprise CarClub

It states that it operates in 30 London boroughs but their coverage of wards is low at present, as here, and it offers three membership options

Their vehicle locations are searchable by landmark or street.

Statutory Consultees – consultation response

15th January 2026|Categories: Updates|Tags: , , , |

London Forum has responded as here to this consultation.

It is to be hoped important statutory consultees will be retained and that those consulted will respond quickly and fully to enable changes or prompt decisions within the time allowed. It is important they all receive funding sufficient to meet their statutory obligations.

TfL’s as a consultee is of critical importance.

If Historic England’s role is to be reduced, it must be ensured that LPAs are adequately resourced to fill the gap.

Oxford Street pedestrianisation

8th January 2026|Categories: Updates|Tags: , , , , |

Consultation on this subject closes on January 22nd, as here.

Neither of the two remaining diverted bus routes near to Oxford Street reach Regent Street, so we oppose the proposed curtailment of the 24-hour 94 bus service at Marble Arch. It would reduce options for travelling home after late night visits to the West End when Underground services finish.

Members can make views known to the Mayor here, including for the 94 buses to be routed via Wigmore street.

Opinion is divided on the efficacy [more…]

Overground improvements

4th January 2026|Categories: Updates|Tags: , |

In the website here it is reported that the Overground operates as a concession, in which TfL sets fares, procures rolling stock, and decides service levels. Next May, it will be managed by First Rail London (FRLL), a subsidiary of FirstGroup PLC.

From then, there will be extra peak-time trains on the Mildmay line, with shuttle services between Clapham Junction and Shepherd’s Bush during peak hours.

From December 2026, the Windrush line services through the core section will increase to 18 trains per hour.
