    The Lee Manor Society has had an exclusive peek behind the boardings at the demolition of Leegate. As this video and these pictures show most of the buildings have now been pulled down by two giant diggers. High powered water hoses are playing constantly on the rubbles to suppress the dust.     Last Updated on 8 February 2026 The Metropolitan Police has confirmed it will close the public front counters at both Wimbledon and Mitcham police stations on Saturday 28th February. This means that Merton will have no police station where residents can walk in and speak to an officer face-to-face.     In August we were delighted to receive an email from Judith Cradock. She was the Society’s membership secretary nearly 60 years ago when Father Bernard Orchard from Ealing Abbey was chairman. Apparently the Society ran out of funds at one stage so she suggested to the committee that they all paid to become life members, and the Society then had sufficient funds to enable it to continue.
