Government Street Vote Consultation
Government Consultation on Street Votes
The Government announced a street vote consultation running to 2nd February 2024 on the detailed operation of street vote development orders. These will inform the content of regulations using new powers in the Levelling Up and Regeneration Act 2023.
It is proposed that qualifying groups of land owners submit a street design code that sets out illustrated design parameters for physical development within the defined street area such as number of floors, plot use and facade treatment. Also, that qualifying groups may submit a detailed specification of elevations visible from public spaces for new or extended buildings, including merging plots to create mansion blocks.
There are six design principles for consideration and secondary legislation may be used to set the more precise requirements.
The London Forum will be responding to the consultation but please send any views to planning@londonforum.org.uk.
