Read What we've saidThe Annual General Meeting of the London Forum of Amenity and Civic Societies will be held this year on Wednesday 15 October. The guest speaker will be Philip Kolvin, the new Chairman of the Civic Trust. Philip is a barrister, and also a successful campaigner. He was a key figure in the Crystal Palace Campaign's opposition to plans for a multiplex cinema on the site of the Crystal Palace. He has also been a Trustee of the Campaign to Protect Rural England (CPRE). So he knows at first hand the challenges facing amenity societies.Read more

At an open meeting on 10 January 2008 Rachael Hill of the Environment Agency explained the risks of flooding in London and the options that are being considered. Flooding in London has become a serious problem, and intense rainfall and extreme storms are likely to occur more frequently in future. Six London boroughs received financial help from Government after being affected by floods in summer 2007. The Environment Agency's maps show that considerable areas of London are at risk of flooding. The current flood defences are getting older and more costly to maintain. Thames Estuary 2100 (TE2100) is an Environment Agency project to develop a management plan that will prevent flooding along the tidal Thames this century. The Walter Bor Media Awards were presented on 13 November 2007. Before the presentations Adam Wilkinson, Secretary of SAVE Britain's Heritage, gave an illustrated address on 'Heritage campaigning and using the media'. Other speakers during the evening were Peter Murray, Curator of New London Architecture and Chairman of the Judges; and Brian Waters, Chairman of the London Planning and Development Forum. Winning societies in each of the categories were invited to speak about their entries.Read more
The Annual General Meeting of the London Forum of Amenity and Civic Societies was held on 9 October 2007. Following the formal business Stephen Joseph, Executive Director of the Campaign for Better Transport (formerly Transport 2000) gave a talk, and took part in a discussion, on the importance of reducing the need to travel. Reducing the need to travel is government policy, but Transport 2000 and Londonforum faced surprising difficulty in trying to persuade the Mayor's Office to accept it as an objective at the Examination in Public of the Further Alterations to the London Plan.Read more
